Last night at Church we talked a little about division and the danger of it. God’s Word speaks about the consequences in Mark 3:25 “if a house is divided against itself, it cannot stand”. Division only brings the death of whatever is divided.
Today, in America, we seem to be facing division in almost every area. The enemy is trying so hard to divide us by race, politics, gender, economic standing, demographics and religion. Sadly even in the “Christian world” we’re allowing ourselves to be divided. Divided by denomination, divided by race, divided by politics.
Paul talks about division in 1 Corinthians 1:10-17. Verse 10 he tells us “Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” He goes on to ask a question in verse 13 “Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?”.
When we accept Christ, truly accept Him, there should only be one dividing line. The line between God’s people and the world. The Christ follower and the non Christ follower. Jesus is the joining factor. Jesus was not divided.
When we allow the enemy in, his goal is to destroy our testimony. To destroy or tarnish how people view God and Jesus. Because we have allowed ourselves to be divided the non believers have a hard time seeing God through all of the mess we’ve created. We’ve taken the relationship that Jesus wants us to have with Him and made our own little “clubs”. We’ve filled full of rules and laws that hinder a true, one on one, relationship with Jesus. We try to convince people that my way is the best way, that my way is really the only way. Churches hardly even speak together let alone work together for the common good, that being Jesus.
I laugh when I read things like “if Jesus was here today He would vote for Trump” or “if Jesus was here today He would support this thing or that thing”. I laugh because Jesus is here today, sure not in the flesh, but He is here nonetheless.
In the big picture there are two agendas; God’s agenda and the world’s agenda. We must choose which one we endorse. And just a hint, God’s agenda will never go against His Word. We can’t know God’s agenda if we’re not in His Word and we are fools if we rely on man to show us instead of reading it for ourselves. Hosea 4:6 reads “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me.”.
A friend of mine always says “What you hear at Church should only be conformation of what you already know”. You should already know it because you’re spending time in God’s Word. You’re spending time feeding on the nourishment that can only come from His Word.
God’s Church, Jesus’s bride, is not divided. Everything must work together for it to work. This country is moving further and further from God. From where I stand, it looks like we as “Christians” could be doing some of the pushing.
I ask that we drop the separation. Jesus is the only way to heaven, not your denomination, political view, sex or race. Our goal after choosing to follow Christ is to spread the Gospel, not division.
Remember if you ever need help or guidance we are always here and available.
In Christ alone.
